CCI imposes maximum penalty on SALPG for denial of market access at Vizag port

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of Rs. 19.2 crore on South Asia LPG Company Ltd (SALPG) for denying market access to East India Petroleum Pvt. Ltd. (EIPL). The CCI found SALPG guilty of abuse of its dominant position for limiting upstream terminalling services for import of LPG at Visakhapatnam port. Noting that denial of market access is one of the most severe forms of abuse of dominant position, the Commission imposed a penalty of 10% of SALPG’s average turnover for the last three years, the maximum fine that can be ordered as per Section 27(b) […]

NCLAT refuses to overturn 6,300 crore penalty imposed by CCI on cement cartel

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) today upheld the decision by which the Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed a cumulative penalty of Rs. 6,300 crore on eleven companies forming part of the cement cartel. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM) announced its annual increments yesterday. Sources have informed us that the increments range between 20% and 75%. However, these huge increments come with a clawback provision. Lawyers on retainer who leave the firm in the next seven months starting this September, will have to repay to the firm three months of their retainer fees.
